Imports from non-FSU countries down 4.4% in Russia in January-March 2014

In January-March 2014, Russia's imports from countries outside the FSU decreased by 4.4% to $59.066 billion, the Federal Customs Service reported.

In March 2014, imports from countries outside the FSU reached $22.572 billion increasing by 14% against February.

Imports of mechanical engineering products increased by 22.4% to $11.478 billion, chemicals by 8% to $3.592 billion, food products and raw materials by 5.9% to $3.203 billion, textile products and footwear by 10.3% to $1.298 billion.

Among food products and raw materials, imports of sugar increased by 67.7%, vegetables by 34.9%, vegetable oil by 32.3%, meat and by-products by 7.8%, grain crops by 2.9%, dairy products by 2.7%, fruit by 1.8%, alcoholic and non-alcoholic products by 1.1%. At the same time, imports of fish decreased by 10.2%, tobacco products by 8.7%.

Imports of chemical products increased due to larger purchases of organic and non-organic chemicals by 13.3%, pharmaceuticals by 10.8%, soap and detergents by 4.3%, polymers and rubber by 3.7%. At the same time, imports of perfumes and cosmetics decreased by 5.7%.

Among textile products and footwear, imports of footwear decreased by 18.6%, knitwear by 12.4%, textile clothes by 11.4%, ready textile products by 7.5%, while imports of textile fabric grew by 18%, man-made yarn by 15.9%, clothing materials by 7.4%, cotton by 2.7%, chemical fibers by 1.2%.

Among mechanical engineering products, imports of vessels and watercraft increased 5.7-fold, aircraft 2.1 times, railway locomotive components by 62.3%, overland transport vehicles by 24.4%, electrical equipment by 24.2%, optical tools and devices by 12%, mechanical equipment by 7.6%.

In March 2014 alone, imports from countries outside the FSU decreased by 3.2% year-on-year.

In particular, Russia's imports of textile products and footwear decreased by 10.4%, chemical products by 6.6%, mechanical engineering products by 4.3%, while import of food products increased by 2.5%.

Among food products and raw materials, imports of grain crops increased by 49.9%, vegetable oil by 43%, dairy products by 28.2%, vegetables by 27.7%, sugar by 19.6%, alcoholic and non-alcoholic products by 10.6%, fish by 0.4%. At the same time, imports of meat and by-products decreased by 32.4%, tobacco products by 31.7%, fruit by 9.7%.

Among chemicals, imports of pharmaceuticals decreased by 12.4%, organic and non-organic chemicals by 8.7%, perfumes and cosmetics by 8.2%, polymers and rubber by 6.7% while imports of soap and detergents increased by 5%.

Among textile products and footwear, imports of footwear decreased by 29.5% year-on-year, cotton by 20.2%, chemical fibers by 18.7%, ready textile products by 14.8%, knitwear by 0.4%. At the same time, imports of man-made yarn increased by 25.1%, textile fabric by 16.7%, clothing materials by 13.5%, textile clothes by 0.9%.

Among mechanical engineering products, imports of railway locomotive components decreased by 14.1%, optical tools and devices by 12.3%, overland transport vehicles by 9.7%, mechanical equipment by 9.6%, electrical equipment by 7%. At the same time, imports of vessels and watercraft increased 2.9 times, aircraft 1.9 times
