Freight turnover at Russia's seaports up 5.7% in January-March 2014

In January-March 2014, the freight turnover at Russia's seaports increased by 5.7% year-on-year to 144.5 million tonnes, the Association of Commercial Sea Ports informed.

The dry cargo throughput reached 63 million tonnes (+13% year-on-year) including 25.8 million tonnes of coal (+16.7%), 11.2 million tonnes of container freight (+7.8%), 5 million tonnes of grain (up 4.5 times year-on-year), 3.3 million tonnes of mineral fertilizers (+17%), 1.7 million tonnes of freight carried by ferries (+9.9%), 1.1 million tonnes of timber freight (+1.2%) 1 million tonnes of scrap metal (+45.4%). Handling of ferrous metals decreased by 1.2% to 6.2 million tonnes, handling of ores by 23.4% to 1.3 million tonnes.

The liquid cargo throughput reached 81.5 million tonnes (+0.7% year-on-year) including 47.3 million tonnes of crude oil (-6.4%), 30 million tonnes of petroleum products (+12.6%), 3.3 million tonnes of liquefied gas (+6.9%).

Export cargo handling increased by 8.1% year-on-year to 116.7 million tonnes, handling of import cargoes decreased by 9.9% year-on-year to 9.8 million tonnes, handling of transit cargoes increased by 10.7% to 12.2 million tonnes, coastal shipping volume decreased by 15.1% year-on-year to 5.8 million tonnes
