In Q1 2014, retail turnover in Russia increased by 3.5% year-on-year to RUB 5,736 billion, Russia's Federal State Statistics Service reported.
In March 2014 alone, retail turnover increased by 4% year-on-year to RUB 2,033 billion.
Trading companies and individual entrepreneurs operating out of market accounted for 91.6%, retail markets and fairs for 8.4% of the retail turnover in March (against 90.5% and 9.5%, respectively, in March 2013).
The commodity breakdown of thre ratail turnover is as follows: food products including beverages and tobacco products 46.9%; non-food products 53.1% (against 47.4% and 52.6%, respectively, in March 2013).
