7-month freight turnover at Russia's seaports up 6.5%

In January-July 2014, the freight turnover at Russia's seaports increased by 6.5% year-on-year to 357.3 million tonnes, the Association of Commercial Sea Ports informed.

The dry cargo throughput reached 161.5 million tonnes (+13.6% year-on-year) including 66.7 million tonnes of coal (+15.5%), 27.4 million tonnes of container freight (+7.4%), 13.9 million tonnes of ferrous metals (+5.5%), 13.6 million tonnes of grain (up 2.5 times), 8.7 million tonnes of mineral fertilizers (+20.6%), 4.4 million tonnes of freight carried by ferries (+16.8%), 2.8 million tonnes of scrap metal (+48%). Handling of ores decreased by 22.8% to to 3.3 million tonnes, handling of nonferrous metals by 20% to to 1.9 million tonnes.

The liquid cargo throughput reached 195.8 million tonnes (+1.3% year-on-year) including 111.4 million tonnes of crude oil (-7.8%), 74.9 million tonnes of petroleum products (+16.1%), 7.3 million tonnes of liquefied gas (+13.2%).

Export cargo handling increased by 8.6% year-on-year to 285 million tonnes, handling of import cargoes decreased by 5.6% year-on-year to 25.4 million tonnes, handling of transit cargoes increased by 5.2% to 28.4 million tonnes, coastal shipping volume decreased by 3.4% year-on-year to 18.4 million tonnes.

The Arctic ports handled 20.2 million tonnes of freight (-24.7% year-on-year), the Baltic ports 130.8 million tonnes of freight (+5.6%).

The Azov and Black Sea ports handled 107.8 million tonnes of freight (+11.1% year-on-year), the Caspian maritime ports 4.5 million tonnes of freight (-5.5% year-on-year), the Far Eastern ports increased their cargo turnover by 13.2% year-on-year to 94 million tonnes
