Freight turnover at Russia's seaports up 6.5% in H1 2014

In H1 2014, the freight turnover at Russia's seaports increased by 6.5% year-on-year to 303.1 million tonnes, the Association of Commercial Sea Ports informed.

The dry cargo throughput reached 135.7 million tonnes (+13.6% year-on-year) including 56.6 million tonnes of coal (+15.3%), 23.4 million tonnes of container freight (+7.8%), 12.2 million tonnes of ferrous metals (+5.1%), 10 million tonnes of grain (up 3.4 times), 7.2 million tonnes of mineral fertilizers (+18.8%), 3.7 million tonnes of freight carried by ferries (+15.8%), 2.4 million tonnes of scrap metal (+45.7%), 2.3 million tonnes of timber freight (+1.7%). Handling of ores decreased to 2.9 million tonnes (-19%), handling of nonferrous metals to 1.6 million tonnes (-22.1%).

The liquid cargo throughput reached 167.4 million tonnes (+1.4% year-on-year) including 96.1 million tonnes of crude oil (-7.6%), 63 million tonnes of petroleum products (+16.5%), 6.4 million tonnes of liquefied gas (+13.9%).

Export cargo handling increased by 8.9% year-on-year to 243.4 million tonnes, handling of import cargoes decreased by 5.9% year-on-year to 21.7 million tonnes, handling of transit cargoes increased by 7.9% to 24.2 million tonnes, coastal shipping volume decreased by 11.9% year-on-year to 13.8 million tonnes.

The Arctic ports handled 17.1 million tonnes of freight (-25.5% year-on-year), the Baltic ports 111 million tonnes of freight (+5.1%).

The Azov and Black Sea ports handled 90.5 million tonnes of freight (+11.7% year-on-year), the Caspian maritime ports 3.8 million tonnes of freight (-6.3% year-on-year), the Far Eastern ports increased their cargo turnover by 13.8% year-on-year to 80.7 million tonnes
