The total amount of foreign investors' M&A transactions with Russian assets in the first quarter of 2014 dropped by 22% to $2.04 billion from $2.64 billion the year before, according to the recent issue of AK&M Information Agency's monthly bulletin MERGERS AND ACQUISITIONS MARKET (no. 195).
The number of out-in transactions for the same period decreased to 13 against 17 deals the year before.
Foreign investors mostly acquire Russian companies' low-margin or non-core assets abroad these days. As to assets located in Russia, foreign investments in them are extremely rare. On the contrary, investors are reducing their footprint in some segments such as the commercial real estate market or the Russian banking sector.
