The Cabinet of Ministers approved the launch of the third stage of modernization of the railway infrastructure of BAM and Transsib

The Russian government has approved the launch of the third stage of an investment project to modernize the railway infrastructure of the BAM and Transsib. The passport of the third stage of this investment project has been approved. This is reported on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The volume of investments in the framework of the third stage of modernization may amount to 3.7 trillion rubles. The implementation of the investment project will increase the carrying capacity of these highways from 180 million tons by the end of 2024 to 210 million tons by the end of 2030 and up to 270 million tons by the end of 2032.

Work will be carried out on 24 sections – 12 of them relate to the Trans–Siberian Railway, 10 to the BAM, two more lines should connect the highways to each other. The modernization of the existing railway infrastructure involves the construction of the second Severomuysky, Kodarsky and Kuznetsovsky tunnels, as well as a bridge over the Amur River, bypassing the Khabarovsk transport hub, the development of the Nakhodka transport hub, as well as the construction of the second main tracks in certain sections. It is expected to complete the modernization within the framework of the stage in 2035.
