The Russian side expects delegations from more than 60 countries to arrive at the upcoming BRICS Games in Kazan, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.
"A bright sporting event will take place in mid-June in Kazan - the BRICS Games will be held there from June 11 to 24. And this year, competitions in 30 disciplines will be held in the traditional tournament for the association, we expect the arrival of delegations from more than 60 countries," the diplomat said.
Zakharova noted that the Russian presidency of the BRICS is entering a "decisive phase." "We are preparing for a meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and International Relations of the BRICS countries. Let me remind you that it is scheduled to take place on June 10-11 in Nizhny Novgorod. And on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, a meeting of transport ministers will be held, as well as a meeting between the Ministries of Health and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry," the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"Meetings of heads of space agencies of the BRICS countries, an international conference of the Russian Ministry of Health on antimicrobial resistance, firefighters' exercises, women's entrepreneurship forums, an academic forum, and a festival of theater schools of the BRICS countries are planned," Zakharova recalled.
The BRICS presidency passed to Russia on January 1, 2024.
