On April 25, the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Higher School of Engineering "New Materials and Technologies" of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics (PRUE named after G.V. Plekhanov). Plekhanova) held a round table "Consumer protection in the Eurasian Economic Union: assessment of the state and prospects for the development of international cooperation."

"Consumer protection in the EAEU is the result of a complex system of interaction between regulators, business and society of the Union countries in solving problems of the common consumer market based on scientific analysis and forecasting," said Natalia Zhukova, Director of the Department of Sanitary, Phytosanitary and Veterinary Measures of the EEC.

The participants of the round table discussed topical issues of ensuring and protecting consumer rights, as well as measures taken by member states to form a transparent consumer market.

Special attention is paid to the development of the consumer movement in the EAEU and the organization of its effective interaction with government agencies and the Commission. The prospects for the activities of a new regional public association, the Eurasian Consumer Union, were discussed. As shown by the study of public opinion in the EAEU countries, about 40% of citizens of the Union countries assess the current situation in the field of consumer protection as prosperous. But at the same time, 83% note a lack of awareness and demand for new knowledge in the field of consumer protection. This is one of the possible areas of work, including the Eurasian Consumer Union together with the EEC.   

The work of the Higher School of Law "Adilet" of the Caspian Public University on the introduction of consumer knowledge into the educational program, as well as the experience of teaching promising professions and technologies in the field of consumer goods quality accumulated by the Russian University of Economics was noted. Plekhanov.

Natalia Zhukova stressed the importance of further promoting the initiative to create a solid scientific and technological base in the field of consumer protection. She also noted that in order to form an effective international consumer protection system, it is necessary to train qualified specialists and scientists in this field.

The preliminary results of the research conducted by the Russian University of Economics are considered. Plekhanov, which is devoted to the study of the level of consumer protection, proposals for the development of a transparent consumer market within the digital economy.

Following the discussion, the participants of the round table expressed confidence that the round table will help strengthen international cooperation on consumer protection and will allow developing new approaches to solving urgent problems in this area.

The round table was attended by representatives of government agencies, public associations, research and educational organizations of the EAEU states, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, as well as the CIS Executive Committee.
