In the first quarter of 2026, 1,336 thousand counterfeit Russian banknotes were detected in the Russian banking system. This is reported on the website of the Bank of Russia.
In particular, 826 counterfeit five thousand banknotes, 410 counterfeits with a face value of 1,000 rubles and 46 counterfeit banknotes with a face value of 2,000 rubles were found.
In January-March 2026, 123 counterfeit banknotes of foreign countries were identified. In particular, 59 counterfeit banknotes were found in January, 31 in February, and 33 in March.
The majority were fake US dollars, followed by euros, and fake Chinese yuan.
