In June 2026, growth was observed in the Russian engineering industry for the seventh month in a row. Total production in the five machine-building industries was 18.5% higher than in June 2025. At the same time, compared with the winter and spring months of 2026, the growth rate of production has increased significantly. It can be said that machine-building industries in the first half of 2026 show a tendency to increase production rates, and the results achieved are not uniform across sectors. In June of this year, Rosstat recorded an increase in industrial production in four out of five engineering sectors in annual dynamics. At the same time, the seasonally adjusted PMI of Russia's manufacturing industries, which tracks the general market situation, showed improvement in July 2026 for the second month in a row, reaching a maximum of 50.7 points since January 2025.
Construction of a plant for the production of printed circuit boards has begun in the Vologda region. The new production facility with an area of more than 21,000 square meters will produce two- and four-layer printed circuit boards up to the sixth accuracy class. The design capacity will be up to 12 million square meters. dm of products per year, and the localization level will range from 60% to 100%. The full-cycle plant is scheduled to be put into operation in early 2028, with full capacity expected in the second half of 2028. The volume of investments in the project is 7.7 billion rubles. The project will create about 400 new jobs.
The United Shipbuilding Corporation has presented a strategy for the serial development of civil shipbuilding until 2036. According to experts, the need to upgrade the civil fleet is estimated at hundreds of vessels, however, it has not yet turned into a comparable volume of new contracts — the key task of the industry is not so much determining the volume of the required fleet, as the formation of sustainable effective demand and rhythmic loading of shipyards. By the end of 2025, 36 civilian ships were contracted at Russian shipyards, the lowest value in the last ten years, while an average of about 126 ships worth about 318 billion rubles were contracted annually in 2016-2025, and the strategic need is estimated at about 1,600 ships by 2036.
The value of exports of machine—building products for the first five months of 2026 amounted to $9.8 billion, while the volume of imports of similar products is 5.9 times higher - $57.5 billion. In annual comparison, the reduction in the value of exports for the first five months amounted to 8.5%, while the value of imports increased by 9.3% yoy. In general, the differential between the cost of exports and imports of engineering products in 2026 continues to decrease.
