The 1639th issue of the bulletin "Branches of the Russian Economy: Manufacturing, Finance, Securities. Electric Power Industry" of the AK&M Information Agency.
The volume of electric generation in Russia in the first seven months of 2025 decreased by 2% compared to the same period in 2024 to 692 billion kWh. In July, production decreased by 1.3% compared to July 2024 and increased by 6.8% compared to June of this year, amounting to 91.6 billion kWh. Already in August, in the first price zone of the wholesale electricity and capacity market, demand and generation increased by 2.7% and 3% year—on-year, while in the second price zone there was a decrease of 4% and 6%, respectively.
A large thermal solar power plant of a new generation has been commissioned in China. The project includes two receiving towers and about 30 thousand heliostats. The annual output of the plant is up to 1.8 billion kWh. Thanks to the heat storage system, the station is able to generate electricity even after sunset — in the evening and at night. Such projects open up new opportunities for stable and environmentally friendly energy supply in regions with high solar activity.
According to the results of the first half of 2025, the total installed capacity of renewable energy generation in the Russian energy system reached 6.64 GW. Such data is provided by the Association for the Development of Renewable Energy. The indicator grew by 7.4% over the year. In a year and a half, the volume of new construction of renewable energy generation facilities amounted to 575 MW. Thus, as of the end of the first half of 2025, the share of installed renewable generation capacity in the Russian energy system is 2.61%, the share of total electricity consumption in Russia in 2024 was 1.19%.
The average monthly equilibrium electricity purchase prices in the competitive market in August 2025 increased by 6.4% in Europe and the Urals, as well as by 22.8% in Siberia, compared with the previous month. Compared to the same period a year earlier, the equilibrium average prices in the first energy zone were 25.9% higher in August, and 40.2% higher in the second. The difference between the average equilibrium price in these two zones in August was 10.2%. The price dynamics of the past month was relatively smooth in both the first and second energy zones — there were no price spikes with a drop of more than 15%.
