AK&M Rating Agency presents the second carbon footprint rating of the largest Russian companies. The evaluation list includes 31 companies with the best practices of sustainable development.

The rating includes companies that claim to follow the principles of sustainable development and disclose ESG information in their reports.

The rating is based on the ranking of the indicator of specific greenhouse gas emissions by companies and for each company shows how many greenhouse gases enter the atmosphere during production at a cost of 1 million rubles. It is calculated as the ratio of the volume of direct greenhouse gas emissions for the year to the annual consolidated revenue.

Only direct emissions of carbon-containing gases are taken into account. Companies are ranked according to the increasing indicator of specific greenhouse gas emissions, - the lower the indicator, the higher positions the company occupies in the rating.
The source of information is the public statements of companies in the field of sustainable development and the consolidated financial statements for 2021.

The leaders of the rating according to the results of 2021:

Ferrous metallurgy – Metalloinvest, NLMK, Severstal.

Non–ferrous metallurgy and mining - Polymetal, Polyus, Norilsk Nickel.

Power engineering – OGK-2, Enel, Unipro.

Power grids - Rosseti Lenenergo, Rosseti Center and Volga Region, Rosseti Center.

Chemistry and petrochemistry – Uralkali, Phosagro.

Oil and gas industry – Lukoil, Tatneft, Rosneft.

Transport – Transcontainer, FPC, Russian Railways.

Communications and information technologies – VK, Vimpelcom, MTS.

The leaders among the largest holdings are Vimpelcom, MTS, Rosseti.
