The Angolan government plans to raise $320 million through the sale of a stake in the telecom operator Unitel SA to replenish the budget and attract investors. This is reported by foreign media.
According to Banco Fomento Angola SA, co-owner of Unitel, the government intends to sell 15% of shares (7.5 million shares) by July 24. Unitel came under state control in 2022 as a result of the nationalization of assets.
The Government is striving to improve the state of public finances and attract investors to the markets of Angola, which is the third largest oil producer in Africa. In 2025, the government launched a program to privatize state assets, including the sale of a stake in Banco de Fomento Angola, the country's second-largest lender, for $239 million. The program also provides for the privatization of the oil company Sonangol EP and diamond producer Endiama SA.
Unitel SA is the largest telecom operator in Angola with over 21 million subscribers. Unitel provides a wide range of services and is actively developing its 3G (and 4G) infrastructure. The infrastructure includes over 14 thousand km of fiber-optic lines. The headquarters is located in Luanda (Angola).
