Australian oil and gas company Woodside Energy Group Ltd. is negotiating with Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Co. (Kufpec), a division of Kuwait Petroleum Corp., to sell its stake in Louisiana LNG Infrastructure LLC. This is reported by foreign media.
In early April 2025, Woodside sold 40% of the LNG export project from the U.S. state of Louisiana to Stonepeak for $5.7 billion. Woodside purchased the export project as part of its acquisition of Tellurian Inc. in 2024 and planned to begin exporting LNG from Louisiana in 2029.
Woodside will need to invest billions of dollars to complete the construction of an LNG plant in Louisiana. In March 2025, Woodside management announced that a partner would be selected in the near future before making a final investment decision.
Companies, including those from Asia and the Middle East, are seeking to invest in energy and LNG projects in the United States to take advantage of growing gas production amid the commissioning of new capacities.
