The British telecommunications company Liberty Global Ltd. has sent a proposal to Vodafone Group Plc regarding the acquisition of its stake in the Dutch joint venture VodafoneZiggo. This is reported in a Liberty press release.

Earlier, Liberty Global held several rounds of negotiations with Vodafone on the proposed deal, which is estimated to be worth over 2 billion euros ($2.2 billion). The Vodafone Ziggo joint venture was established on a 50/50 basis in 2016.

If an agreement is reached, Liberty Global may subsequently merge the Dutch fixed-line and mobile operator VodafoneZiggo with its Belgian cable company Telenet to create a major operator in the Benelux countries.

In 2024, Liberty Global began restructuring its portfolio in order to increase the value of its shares. In particular, Liberty has registered the Swiss fixed-line network Sunrise Communications AG and separated the British operator Virgin Media O2 into a separate company.

European operators began to seek to consolidate assets in order to expand operations and increase profits against the background of the statement by the EU leadership on the development of new rules in the field of telecommunications, which will be published at the end of 2025.
