The British pharmaceutical company GSK Plc has entered into an agreement to acquire the American biotech company Rapt Therapeutics, Inc. This is reported in a press release from GSK.
The value of the transaction is $2.2 billion ($58 per share, which is 65% higher than the closing price on January 19, 2026). The deal includes the acquisition of ozureprubart (a preventive food allergen protection product) with the right to sell on international markets, with the exception of China. The drug should compensate for the expiration of the patent for the best-selling HIV drug.
Earlier, GSK separated Haleon's healthcare division into a separate structure and expanded its portfolio of medicines through several transactions. In addition, GSK will retain a controlling stake in the joint venture ViiV Healthcare, an HIV drug manufacturer, after a change in ownership. In particular, the Japanese Shionogi&Co. invests $2.1 billion to increase its stake in ViiV, taking into account Pfizer Inc.'s withdrawal from the project.
GSK is under pressure in the vaccine industry, where sales have been lower than expected, and is currently focused on developing two key areas — the development of cancer drugs and innovative medicines for the treatment of immune and inflammatory diseases.
