Sound Energy Plc, a British energy company, has entered into an agreement with Gaia Energy Ltd. to establish a joint venture for the production of 270 MW solar energy in Morocco. This is reported in a press release from Sound Energy.

The joint venture will use Morocco's energy network, targeting at least 10 settlements near high-voltage substations, in order to optimize energy distribution among consumers. Gaia has started developing feasibility studies, including an assessment of solar radiation, access to production sites, and network connectivity.

The Moroccan government plans to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and increase renewable energy production from the current 7% of total consumption, of which 90% is accounted for by fossil fuels, despite the stable sunny climate in Morocco (more than 3,000 hours per year).

In addition, Sound Energy conducted a regional screening of natural hydrogen and helium deposits in Morocco in collaboration with Getech Group Plc as part of an exploration agreement signed in October 2024. The companies plan to create a joint venture with exclusive rights for exploration and geophysical research of hydrogen and helium.

The strategic location and geological conditions of Morocco make it possible to make the country the main contender for the extraction of natural hydrogen, the cost of which is only $1/kg, which is significantly cheaper than that of green hydrogen. Helium is an essential raw material for the medical, aerospace, and technology industries and is often used alongside hydrogen, increasing the economic efficiency of projects.

Sound Energy is an energy company producing low—carbon dioxide fuels. The company sells LNG to companies as part of the transition to clean energy and decarbonization. The headquarters is located in London (England).

Gaia Energy is a Moroccan energy company in the field of renewable energy production. The headquarters is located in Rabat (Morocco).
