By the end of 2022, the area of forest fires amounted to 3.5 million hectares, which is 1.8 times lower than the target. This was stated by the head of the Federal Forestry Agency Ivan Advisers at a meeting on the results of the 2022 fire season and preparation for the 2023 season, the agency reports.
Thus, 78.7% of forest fires were detected in a timely manner on an area of less than 5 hectares, which made it possible to quickly extinguish the fires, preventing the spread of fire. In addition, 25 regions of the country eliminated 100% of forest fires in the first day, and another 12 subjects did not allow them.
In 2023, it is planned to reduce the "control zones" by 96.5 million hectares.
