Canadian mining company Nouveau Monde Graphite Inc. (NMG) has entered into a number of agreements for the sale of graphite from its flagship Matawinie mine. This is reported in the Nouveau Monde press release.
The agreements are an important factor for making a final investment decision on the Quebec project and include a strategic partnership with the Canadian government to produce 15,000 tons of graphite concentrate per year and sell an additional 15,000 tons per year to allied countries. Emphasizing the strategic importance of graphite, the Government of Canada has signed a seven-year contract for the supply of 30,000 tons of graphite concentrate per year.
Agreements with the Canadian government, the Japanese company Panasonic Energy, which is a strategic shareholder of NMG, and the trading company Traxys North America LLC, as well as preliminary negotiations with another major anode manufacturer, significantly reduce the risks of the graphite project for creditors and investors, as they provide an insight into profitability and risk profile.
In addition, NMG has updated agreements with key clients to meet current market conditions and financing needs. In particular, the agreement with Panasonic Energy was revised to accelerate the production of 13,000 tons of active anode material per year using 25,000 tons of graphite concentrate from the Matawinie mine. The agreement with Traxys trading company ensures the supply of 20 thousand tons of graphite concentrate per year.
The Matawinie mine plays a key role in Western countries' efforts to create a secure and independent supply chain for critical minerals, including graphite, needed for the production of batteries for electric vehicles and other strategic technologies based on lithium-ion battery anodes.
NMG has consistently reduced the risks associated with the Matawinie project by obtaining key permits, signing damage compensation agreements with indigenous peoples, completing design by more than 80%, and partnering with Caterpillar to produce zero-emission mining equipment.
Nouveau Monde Graphite Inc is a Canadian mining company engaged in the exploration and development of mineral deposits. The headquarters is located in Quebec (Canada).
