The Danish investment company Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners P/S (CIP) has signed an agreement with the Australian Windlab Pty Ltd. for the acquisition of the Gawara Baya project. This is reported in the CIP press release.
CIP has received a loan of $1.2 billion from 10 banks to implement the Gawara Baya project, which provides for the construction of an onshore wind farm with a capacity of 408 MW and a 104 MW battery energy storage system in Queensland, Australia.
The project is scheduled to be commissioned in 2030, taking into account the desire of the Australian government to attract private capital for the development of renewable energy and energy storage systems needed to replace aging coal-fired power plants.
The investment expands CIP's portfolio in the Asia-Pacific region, which includes a $3 billion commitment to develop the Philippines' largest offshore wind energy project. The company has also established a large offshore wind energy business in Taiwan and is considering selling a controlling stake in the 600 MW Changfang-Xidao project.
