Danish energy company Ørsted A/S has entered into an agreement with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners to sell its European onshore business for 1.4 billion euros ($1.7 billion) as part of the completion of its asset sale plan. This is reported in a press release from Ørsted.

The onshore project portfolio includes over 800 MW of facilities and a pipeline through Ireland, the UK, Germany and Spain. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter. The French company Engie SA was also among the final bidders for the acquisition of the business.

The deal is in line with a massive plan to rebalance through a significant increase in capital after a series of setbacks in the offshore wind energy market in the United States. Nevertheless, Ørsted intends to complete the construction of two large wind farms in the United States with the permission of an American court before returning to projects in Europe. The project generated losses of $2.5 million per day.

In May 2025, Ørsted abandoned the construction of the fourth phase of the Hornsea wind farm with a design capacity of 2.4 GW in the UK due to the unfavorable economic situation.

Ørsted specializes in offshore wind energy, which accounts for the vast majority of profits and investments. The prospects for offshore wind energy in Europe remain uncertain, given rising prices. The companies called on governments to provide subsidies that guarantee wind farm owners fixed electricity prices.

Ørsted A/S is a Danish state—owned energy company. Ørsted is also the world's largest operator of offshore wind farms. The headquarters is located in Fredericia (Denmark) with offices in the UK, USA, Germany, the Netherlands, Taiwan, etc.
