The Dutch steel company Tata Steel IJmuiden B. V., controlled by the Indian Tata Steel Limited, has entered into an agreement with Vattenfall Power Generation Netherlands B. V. with the aim of absorbing LAG Velsen B. V. This is reported in a press release from Tata Steel.
The value of the transaction is 140 million euros. Upon completion of the transaction, LAG Velsen will become an indirect subsidiary of Tata Steel Limited.
LAG Velsen is a new company founded by Vattenfall Power to manage three key power plants in the Netherlands (VN24, VN25 and IJmond01), which collectively generate 770 MW of electricity. The units process process gases at the Tata Steel plant in Ijmuiden into electricity and steam in accordance with the contract until the end of 2025. Vattenfall will not renew the grant agreement due to the strategic restructuring.
The deal is expected to close on January 1, 2026, with the aim of securing Tata Steel Nederland's energy infrastructure and strengthening industrial development in Europe.
