The European Commission has released the report "The EU's Blue Economy until 2025". It presents the economic indicators of the EU Blue Economy sectors. This is stated in the message of the EC.
So, in 2022, 4.82 million people were employed in the sectors of the EU "blue economy". It generated almost 890 billion euros of turnover and amounted to 250.7 billion euros of gross value added (GVA). The growth continued in 2023. The "blue Economy" provided 263 billion euros of EU GVA and 4.88 million jobs. Between 2012 and 2022, the real GVA of the "blue economy" grew by 37%.
Coastal tourism generated 33% of the GVA of the EU's "blue economy" and 53% of the total number of jobs in 2022. In the offshore wind energy sector, the GVA increased by 42% compared to 2021. This growth increased the sector's profit, which reached 4.1 billion euros in 2022.
