Italy's Eni and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have signed a 15-year financial contract worth 500 million euros for the conversion of the Eni refinery in Livorno into a bio-processing plant. This is stated in the message of the parties.
Eni plans to build new plants for the production of hydrogenated biofuels at the refinery. These include a pre-biogenic treatment plant and an Ecofining plant with a capacity of 500,000 tons per year.
The bio-processing plant in Livorno will be able to process various types of biogenic waste, mainly waste and residues of plant origin, for the production of HVO diesel fuel.
In the future, the company will be able to change the layout of the plant so that it can produce environmentally friendly aviation fuel (SAF). This will contribute to decarbonization of the transport sector and reduction of CO2 emissions.
Eni S. p. A. is an Italian multinational energy company, the largest Italian oil and gas company. The headquarters is located in Rome (Italy). The main production regions are Africa and Kazakhstan, and the main sales market is Italy and other European countries.
The European Investment Bank (ElB) is a long-term lending institution of the European Union, owned by its member States. It finances investments that contribute to the achievement of EU policy objectives.
