At EVRAZ NTMK, due to the renovation of the thermal power plant (CHP), greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere have been reduced by 7.5 thousand tons per year. At the same time, the plant's own electricity generation has been increased by 1.5% per year. The economic effect is more than 47 million rubles per year. This is stated in the company's message.

During the renovation of the CHP, one of the boiler installations was upgraded, two smoke pumps with reduced energy consumption were installed on boiler No. 9. Each smoke pump consumes 23% less resources, which significantly increases the efficiency of their work.

In addition, two new heat exchangers have been installed that heat water for supply to consumers, the diameter of the steam pipeline has been increased, and its throughput has been increased. An automatic control system for aggregates and mechanisms has been installed, which makes it possible to qualitatively regulate the water temperature under changing weather conditions.

It was also possible to reduce the load on the environment by increasing the capacity of the feeders of the CHP communication from 750 to 1600 amperes per hour. To do this, current-limiting reactors, oil switches, bus disconnectors, protection panels, equipment of four communication feeders were replaced.

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Nizhny Tagil and Kachkanar is one of the priorities of EVRAZ. The company has already invested 3.2 billion rubles in environmental projects in these cities and plans to allocate about 15 billion rubles more by 2030.

EVRAZ is a vertically integrated metallurgical and mining company with assets in Russia, Kazakhstan, the USA, Canada and the Czech Republic. The company is among the largest steel producers in the world in terms of steel production. Its own base of iron ore and coking coal almost completely meets the internal needs of the company.

EVRAZ's net profit for the first half of 2021 increased by 2 times to $1.2 billion from $513 million a year earlier. Revenue increased by 24% to $6.2 billion from $4.98 billion, EBITDA increased by 94% to $2.08 billion from $1.07 billion.
