The first nuclear power plant will be built in Uzbekistan. This was announced by Rosatom.
The pouring of the "first concrete" marks the official designation of the facility as a "nuclear power plant under construction" according to IAEA standards. As part of the priority work on the "first concrete", specialists will pour 133 cubic meters of the mixture, the total volume of concrete will be 10 thousand cubic meters of the mixture.
On June 4, 2026, the Committee on Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan issued a license to the general customer, the State Enterprise (SE) Directorate for the Construction of Nuclear Power Plants for the construction of a nuclear power plant with a Russian RITM–200N nuclear installation. The decision was made at a meeting of the Committee's Kengash (Council) after the design documentation, technical solutions and safety justification materials had passed a full comprehensive examination at the Scientific and Technical Center for Radiation and Nuclear Safety. Earlier, on March 23, 2026, permission was granted to use the site for nuclear installations. The Committee will carry out permanent state control over compliance with all license conditions and nuclear and radiation safety requirements throughout the construction process.
The nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan is a project of the Rosatom State Corporation. It is being built under the world's first export contract for the construction of a low-power nuclear power plant (ASMM). The project will include two high-capacity power units based on VVER-1000 reactors and two power units with RITM-200N reactors with a capacity of 55 MW each. It is expected that when the NPP is launched at full capacity, the power facility will generate 17.2 billion kWh per year.
