Fishery of cetaceans to be prohibited in Russia

The Government of Russia is preparing to prohibit the fishery of cetaceans. The draft law prohibits both commercial and coastal fishery of cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoises), Russia's Ministry of Natural Resources informed.

The regulation on fishery of oceanic mammals in the exclusive economic zone of the Russian Federation will be tightened up to the prohibition of fishing of certain species of oceanic mammals. The permanent prohibition on exports of cetaceans outside Russia will be considered at the Eurasian Economic Union level.
