Gazprom Neft has discovered a deposit with geological reserves of 55 million tons of oil in the Arctic zone of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. This is stated in the company's message.
The opening confirmed the prospects for further development of the company's oil production center in the south of Yamal.
The field was discovered within the Yuzhno-Novoportovskoye and Saletinsky sites in the Yamal region of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. When drilling a prospecting and evaluation well at a depth of 2.7 km, industrial inflows of low-sulfur and low-viscosity oil, gas and condensate were obtained. The field is named after Alexey Kontorovich, one of the founders of the Russian scientific school of oil and gas geology and organic geochemistry.
The discovery was preceded by a three-year study of the sites with 2D and 3D seismic surveys, as well as the creation of geological and hydrodynamic models of the subsurface. Drilling was conducted around the clock from the well construction management center in Tyumen, more than 1.3 thousand km from Yamal.
The field is part of Gazprom Neft's large oil and gas cluster in the south of the Yamal Peninsula, which includes the Yuzhno-Novoportovsky, Surovy and Saletinsky sections. Additional exploration is planned in the near future to clarify the geological structure and production potential of the deposit. Based on the data obtained, a program for the development of new deposits will be formed.
Alexey Emilievich Kontorovich is a scientist, the founder of the scientific school of geology and geochemistry of oil and gas, the author of fundamental works in the field of oil and gas formation and assessment of the potential of sedimentary basins. His research has made a significant contribution to the formation and development of the oil and gas industry in Western Siberia.
Gazprom Neft PJSC (TIN 5504036333) and its subsidiaries are holders of licenses for exploration and development of deposits. The proven oil reserves at the company's fields exceed 4.5 billion barrels. Gazprom Group is the largest shareholder of the company.
Gazprom Neft's revenue under IFRS for the first half of 2025 amounted to 1.77 trillion rubles, which is 12.1% lower than a year earlier — 2.02 trillion rubles. Adjusted EBITDA decreased by 27.6% to RUB 510.08 billion from RUB 704.076 billion. Profit attributable to Gazprom Neft shareholders decreased by 54.2% to 150.464 billion rubles from 328.474 billion rubles.
