The Federal Antimonopoly Service has approved the acquisition of the OBI construction hypermarket chain by Hermes. This is stated in the message of the service.

The FAS has considered the organization's petition to acquire 65% of the shares in the authorized capital of DIY LLC, Diy Northwest LLC and OBI Franchise Center LLC.

According to the agency, the deal will not limit competition in the construction materials retail market.

OBI is an international retail chain of construction and household goods stores owned by the German company OBI GmbH & Co. Deutschland KG.

OBI company came to Russia in 2003. Today, there are 26 hypermarkets in 12 cities in Russia: ten in Moscow, five in St. Petersburg, two stores each in Nizhny Novgorod and Yekaterinburg, and one each in Kazan, Krasnodar, Saratov, Ryazan, Bryansk, Tula, and Volgograd.

The operation of OBI hypermarkets was suspended in March 2022, and in May 2022 they reopened their doors to customers and fully resumed trading.

In 2022, the Federal Antimonopoly Service approved the petitions of MAX Group of Investment and Construction Companies LLC to acquire OBI's Russian business.

In 2023, it became known that entrepreneur Andrey Baranov filed an application with the Moscow Arbitration Court to invalidate transactions on the alienation of shares in companies associated with the OBI network in Russia.

Today, the business is owned by owners from Russia, and Maxim Suravegin is the executive director of OBI Russia.
