Bank DOM.RF has announced a competition for the implementation of the Second Western Defensive barracks of Kronstadt (part of St. Petersburg). This was reported by Bank DOM.RF.

The lot includes the sale of a historical complex with an area of 24.9 thousand square meters and the lease of a 3.97 ha plot. It will be possible to place an educational institution here, create an art space or transform the facility into a multifunctional complex. The new owner will be able to attract preferential financing to put the facility in order and modern facilities at 9% per annum.

Applications for participation in the auction are accepted until October 13. The competition will be held on October 17th. The initial price of the lot is 548.73 million rubles.

The original one-story building was built in 1826-1828, during the period when Kronstadt was being rebuilt after a flood that destroyed many previous fortifications. While Kotlin Island and the strait were covered by 20 forts from the sea, the land defense of the fortress was formed in the 1820s by a wall, two defensive barracks and the Kronverk Canal, which was completed by 1848. The barracks, together with a stone wall, formed the Central fence of Kronstadt.

Later, the Kronstadt Gate, lined with granite slabs, was cut through the building. At the beginning of the 20th century, the gates were laid, and new ones were built instead. Now it is the intersection of Zosimova Street and Kronshtadtskoye Highway. In addition to the two western barracks, six more similar buildings were built around Kronstadt. After the Great Patriotic War, the 42nd Naval School of the Navy was located here (closed in 2014), and in the early 1980s the third floor was added. Later, warehouses and workshops were placed in the buildings.

The building is currently in poor condition. The winner of the competition will be required to carry out work on the restoration and preservation of the facility, as well as meet the requirements for its maintenance and use in accordance with the procedure established by law.
