In 2024, RUSAL's Boguchansky, Bratsky, Irkutsk and Krasnoyarsk aluminum plants began processing and involving aluminum scrap in the production of primary metal. This is stated in the company's message.
Enterprises have joined the recycling program for third-party aluminum scrap. After melting, it was used in the production of primary metal. The use of scrap makes it possible to reduce the carbon footprint of metal and products made from it and realize the possibility of recycling without loss of quality.
The Volgograd Aluminum Plant (VgAZ) launched this program in 2021. In 2024, the company increased its processing volume by 74% compared to 2023. VGAZ produced 72 thousand tons of aluminum, 2 thousand tons of melted scrap were involved in the production of this volume. The share of scrap in the total volume of finished products at the plant approached 3%.
The Irkutsk Aluminum Plant (IrkAZ) also melted down and involved in the production of over 800 tons of scrap. Some of the products containing recycled aluminum were exported. The company plans to increase the processing of aluminum scrap several times by the end of the year.
