Indian credit companies Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. and Federal Bank Ltd. have submitted official applications for the acquisition of Deutsche Bank AG's retail and asset management business in India. This is reported by foreign media.

The parties to the proposed deal are negotiating with Deutsche Bank regarding the sale of assets worth at least $2.5 billion.

Deutsche Bank has decided to sell its Indian assets, including mortgages, small business loans and asset management services, in order to exit the oversaturated consumer market. Deutsche Bank has branches in 16 cities in India and has been narrowing its operations in recent years, focusing on corporate banking and investment services for multinational companies and large domestic clients.

As part of the deal, Kotak aims to become one of India's leading retail banks amid industry consolidation. In 2024, Kotak acquired Standard Chartered Bank's portfolio of private loans in India.

Federal Bank, controlled by the American investment company Blackstone Inc, intends to strengthen its position as a national provider of financial services.

The surge in billions of dollars worth of transactions in the Indian banking sector is attributed to foreign investments in insurance and fintech companies. Financial companies are striving to capture leading positions in the Indian market amid rapid economic growth and increased deposits.
