Indian farmers intend to hold large-scale protests against the trade agreement with the United States, which could negatively affect the Indian agricultural sector. This is reported by foreign media.

The protests against the agreement highlight the challenges faced by the Indian government in seeking to reduce U.S. tariffs while taking into account the development of the agricultural sector in India.

Millions of small farmers represent a serious political group that can influence the policy of the Indian leadership, despite assurances that there is no cause for concern on the part of farmers.

The government said the agreement does not include dairy products, poultry and imports of key genetically modified crops. At the same time, reducing duties on soybean oil will obviously make American products more competitive compared to Indian ones.

According to analysts, the agreement opens up access to some undesirable products in the Indian agricultural market, the total value of which is estimated at $ 580 billion. In particular, the agreement allows the import of DDGS (dried distiller grains, a byproduct of ethanol used in animal feed, which is produced in the United States from genetically modified corn).
