The Italian oil and gas company Eni S. p.A. has launched the second stage of the Congo LNG project with the aim of exporting LNG from the beginning of 2026. This is reported in a press release from Eni.

The second stage of the Congo LNG project, commissioned ahead of schedule, includes three production platforms, as well as the Scarabeo 5 gas compression unit and the Nguya FLNG gas liquefaction and export unit, which will produce 3 million tons per year (4.5 billion cubic meters).

The integrated structure of the project is aimed at developing the gas resources of the Nené and Litchendjili offshore fields under the Marine XII license and provides flexible volume management, ensuring stable supply to the Tango FLNG unit, operating from the end of 2023, and to the new Nguya FLNG unit. A significant part of the project was fully implemented in the Congo, which improved the skills of the local workforce and strengthened the national industrial sector.

The Nguya FLNG gas processing platform uses advanced technologies to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and is designed to process gas of various compositions. The Scarabeo 5 rig, converted from a drilling rig to a gas treatment, separation and compression unit, also includes decarbonization technologies based on a closed-loop economy and reuse in industry.

Eni has been operating in the Congo for more than 55 years and supplies gas to the Centrale Électrique du Congo energy network, which provides 70% of the country's electricity generation capacity and contributes to the modernization of the transmission network by restoring the high-voltage line between Pointe-Noire and Brazzaville.

Eni S. p. A. is an Italian multinational energy company and one of the largest oil companies in the world with a market capitalization of 40 billion euros. The main production regions include Africa and Kazakhstan, while the main sales markets are Italy and other European countries. The headquarters is located in San Donato Milanese (Milan).
