The Italian multinational energy company Eni S.p.A. has signed a letter of intent with BMW Italia, a subsidiary of German BMW AG, regarding the development of joint projects within the framework of the transition of motor transport to more energy-efficient technologies. This is reported in a press release from Eni.

In particular, the agreement aims to integrate the use of HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) biofuels with vehicle decarbonization and provides for the development of projects based on three main principles — promoting sustainable mobility, implementing new biofuel offerings, and expanding the electric mobility infrastructure through new Plenty On The Road charging centers for BMW customers.

The partnership is an example of synergy between energy and industrial companies aimed at creating a supportive ecosystem capable of integrating scientific research and technological development, market demand, and decarbonization goals. The use of biofuels in diesel engines opens up significant opportunities and provides environmental benefits by reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90%.
