New rules for fire safety in forests will come into force in Russia on September 1, 2026. This was reported by the Federal Forestry Agency.

The document takes into account changes in the Forest Code, which relate to the protection of forests from fires. All of them are aimed at the prevention and timely detection of forest fires.

A ban on the use of pyrotechnic devices in forests is being introduced for the duration of the fire season. The width of the mineralized strip separating the land plots adjacent to the forests, on which burning of brushwood and other combustible materials is allowed, is increasing. Now it should be at least 1.4 m, said Deputy head of the Federal Forestry Agency Alexei Venglinsky, whose words are quoted in the message.

The new rules reflect changes regarding the obligation of tenants of forest plots to participate in extinguishing forest fires in leased areas according to consolidated plans for extinguishing forest fires in the regions. The document also clarifies that monitoring of fire hazards and forest fires is carried out, among other things, using specialized software.

As of June 2, a special fire protection regime has been established in 47 regions of Russia. Access to the forest is strictly prohibited for the duration of the regime.

An emergency regime is in effect throughout the Khabarovsk Territory. As of 06:00 MSK on June 2, there were 7 forest fires in the region on the lands of the forest fund on an area of 18.6 thousand hectares.
