NLMK has excluded the release of purified domestic wastewater from showers, laundries, canteens and other facilities into the Voronezh River. This will reduce the consumption of fresh river water by 6.5 million cubic meters. m per year, the company says.
At the same time, the company has not released purified industrial wastewater into the river for more than 15 years. After purification, these effluents return to a closed water cycle. Their reuse has already reduced water consumption from the Voronezh River by five times. NLMK will also reuse treated domestic wastewater for steel production.
In addition, the industrial water supply system will include domestic wastewater from the Levoberezhny district of the city of Lipetsk. This will reduce Lipetsk's urban wastewater by 15%. NLMK will reuse not only its secondary resources, but also involve residential wastewater in a closed cycle.
NLMK Group is a manufacturer of steel products. Raw material extraction and steel production are concentrated in low-cost regions, and finished products are manufactured in close proximity to major consumers in Russia, North America, and the EU.
NLMK's RAS net profit for 2024 fell 4 times to 52.36 billion rubles from 221.48 billion rubles a year earlier. Revenue increased by 5.5% to RUB 737.5 billion from RUB 698.897 billion.
