In Russia, MIR cards accounted for 24% of the in the total volume of domestic card transactions in 2020. As of January 1, 2021, about 95 million Mir cards were issued, their number growing by 30% against January 1, 2020 and reaching 30.6% of the total number of payment cards issued, according to the Bank of Russia's annual report.
MIR is Russia's national payment card. On February 18, 2020, the State Duma passed a law obliging large retail aggregator websites to process payment transactions using MIR cards.
