PhosAgro summed up the preliminary results of scientific research that was conducted on the basis of carbon landfills in the Vologda region, created by the company. This is stated in the message of PhosAgro.

In 2022, the company, together with the regional government and the Russian Academy of Sciences, organized 3 landfills with an area of 100 hectares each at a distance of 100 km from each other in Cherepovets and Vologda districts to study the carbon sequestration capacity of forests (24 types of forests) ecosystems and agrocenoses, as well as effective climate-friendly agricultural practices.

The specialists have worked out the practice of accelerated cultivation of tree seedlings for the development of carbon-depositing forest plantations. Small elm seedlings grew to a height of 1.5 m in 4 months instead of 1 year due to selected plant nutrition systems based on mineral fertilizers. They also found out that the best survival rate and carbon sequestration ability are natural tree species for the region, grown in the form of a mixed forest.

In addition, the specialists worked out the practice of accelerated cultivation of tree seedlings for the development of carbon-depositing forest plantations. Small elm seedlings grew to a height of 1.5 m in 4 months instead of 1 year due to selected plant nutrition systems based on mineral fertilizers.

In addition, PhosAgro has created efficient nutrition systems that allow the maximum amount of CO2 to be stored from the atmosphere in the biomass of agricultural crops, in the soil for forest and agroecosystems. The nitrogen loss coefficient of the company's biologized fertilizers is 5-10% less than that of fertilizers without biologization. This makes it possible to produce agricultural products with a reduction in the carbon footprint from 8 to 35%. A methodology for the primary economic assessment of climate projects in agriculture has also been developed.

PhosAgro and the Academician Y.A. Israel Institute of Global Climate and Ecology will complete by the end of the year the creation of practical recommendations for growing 100 popular crops using low-carbon farming techniques.
