RUSAL fired and started the electrolyzer using inert anodes. During the electrolysis of aluminum using the revolutionary technology of inert anodes, oxygen is released into the atmosphere instead of greenhouse gases. Previously, RUSAL used conventional carbon anodes in industrial tests of technology for firing and starting electrolyzers, the company said in a statement.

Firing and launching a new electrolyzer is one of the most difficult and responsible procedures in aluminum production, the use of inert anodes in it became possible after several R&D. Since now, the inert anode technology developed by RUSAL specialists has completely eliminated the need to use carbon anodes and makes the aluminum electrolysis process completely carbon-free and as environmentally friendly as possible.
