Russian "Green cards" will cease to be valid in the European Union from June 1, 2023. The operation of the "Green Cards" in the friendly member countries of the system will continue. This was reported by the press service of the VSS and the RSA.

From June 1, 2023, the bilateral agreements concluded by the Russian Union of Motor Insurers with the bureaus/unions of motor insurers of the states of the European Economic Area, as well as Switzerland and the United Kingdom, the provisions of which provide for mutual recognition of insurance certificates "Green Card", will expire.

Until the specified date, the "Green Cards" work as usual. For trips to other countries of the system, including Azerbaijan, Belarus, Moldova, Serbia and Turkey, Russian "Green Cards" are valid without restrictions.

The "green cards" of the European Union, Switzerland and the United Kingdom cease to be valid on the territory of Russia from the specified date, regardless of the validity period specified in the certificate. Similarly, Russian "Green Cards" cease to operate on the territory of the European Union, Switzerland and the UK. Russian insurance organizations that are members of the Green Card Bureau do not have the right to issue certificates for trips to these countries with a validity period after May 31, 2023. There are no restrictions on issuing cards for trips to other countries of the system.

In this regard, in order to travel through the territory of the European Union, Switzerland and the United Kingdom after May 31, 2023 on vehicles registered in Russia, drivers will need to purchase a border insurance policy of the relevant country at checkpoints. To travel from the specified date on the territory of Russia on vehicles registered in the European Union, Switzerland and the UK, drivers will need to purchase a Russian CTP policy.

Claims of victims of road accidents that occurred in EU countries before June 1, 2023, are subject to settlement in a standard manner.
