Transportation of goods in containers in international traffic in the CIS increased by 15.5% in 2024 to 72.3 million tons. This was stated by Oleg Belozerov, head of the Council for Railway Transport of the Commonwealth member states, head of Russian Railways, the company said in a statement.
In total, more than 1.6 billion tons of cargo were transported.
Oleg Belozerov stressed that the railway administrations are working on the development of international transport corridors. It was decided to create a special strategic group within the Council in this area. Its tasks will be to coordinate flexible tariff conditions, digitalization and improvement of transportation technology.
Much attention is paid to the organization of seamless transit through the North—South Transport Corridor.
The Head of the Council noted a more than threefold increase in container shipments along the western route to Iran and beyond in 2024 (more than 5.5 thousand TEU were shipped) and a more than twofold increase in the first 4 months of 2025 (3.5 thousand TEU).
A significant increase in container traffic is also recorded on the eastern route of the North—South Transport Hub. In 4 months of 2025, the volume of container traffic increased 2.5 times and amounted to more than 1.3 thousand TEU.
Oleg Belozerov also noted the growth of international passenger traffic by 13.4% in 2024 to 9.3 million.
JSC "Russian Railways" (TIN 7708503727) was established on October 1, 2003 on the basis of the Ministry of Railways. The state owns 100% of the company's shares.
The net profit of Russian Railways holding in 2024 according to IFRS amounted to 50.7 billion rubles against 170.08 billion rubles a year earlier. The reduction is 70%. The total revenues of the holding increased by 9.2% to RUB 3.29 trillion.
Loading on the Russian Railways network in January-May 2025 fell by 7.3% to 465.2 million tons compared to a year earlier. Passenger traffic increased by 2.2% to 507.5 million compared to a year earlier.
