In five years, Russians have been able to write off 44 billion rubles of debts through out-of-court bankruptcy. This was announced by the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.
As noted by Maxim Kolesnikov, First Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia, whose words are quoted in the message, from September 2020 to September 2025, about 128 thousand extrajudicial procedures were initiated. Of these, 94 thousand ended with the successful cancellation of debts in the amount of more than 44 billion rubles. Another 33.5 thousand procedures are under consideration, and over 18 billion rubles have been declared for write-off.
Recall that on October 1, 2025, it will be 10 years since the entry into force of the law that introduced the bankruptcy procedure for citizens through the court. The relevant amendments were made to the law "On Insolvency (Bankruptcy)".
Since November 2023, the procedure has become available to pensioners, citizens receiving benefits in connection with the birth and upbringing of a child, as well as citizens with debts collected for more than seven years. The lower limit of debt has been reduced to 25 thousand rubles, the upper limit has been increased to 1 million rubles. Since May 2025, additional grounds have been introduced that allow participants to take advantage of out-of-court bankruptcy.
