Saudi Aramco Technologies Company (SATC), a subsidiary of Aramco, and Chinese battery manufacturer BYD Co Ltd. have signed an agreement to jointly develop new energy transportation technologies. This is reported in a Saudi Aramco press release.
The partnership is aimed at stimulating the development of innovative technologies by combining the research and development centers of both global companies.
Aramco is exploring various methods to potentially improve transport efficiency, from innovative low-carbon fuels to advanced powertrain concepts.
In April 2025, the company discovered 14 new oil and natural gas fields in the eastern region of Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Aramco is the largest oil company in terms of oil production and oil reserves in the world. The company was founded as part of a concession agreement between the Government of Saudi Arabia and the American oil company Standard Oil of California. BYD is a Chinese conglomerate in the field of production of electric and hybrid passenger cars, electric buses, electric trucks, monorail trains, car batteries, etc. The company includes two divisions — BYD Auto (car manufacturing) and BYD Electronic (battery and electronics manufacturing).
