The national debt of the Russian Federation increased by 3.446 trillion rubles in 2024. or by 13.5% to 29.041 trillion rubles (14.5% of GDP). This is reported in the materials of the Accounting Chamber.
The domestic debt increased by 2.95 trillion rubles, or by 14.1% to 23.742 trillion rubles. External debt in foreign currency decreased by $1.2 billion (in ruble terms increased by 516 billion rubles), or by 2.3% (10.8%), and amounted to $52.1 billion (5.298 trillion rubles).
The cost of servicing the national debt amounted to 2.329 trillion rubles. Their share in the total volume of federal budget expenditures amounted to 5.8%, increased by 1.8 percentage points compared to the "pre-pandemic" 2019 and became one of the main items of the functional classification of expenditures.
