HTC Corp., a Taiwanese smartphone and tablet manufacturer, plans to sell part of the assets of the XR division in the field of immersive technologies to the American company Google LLC. This is reported in HTC's press release.
The value of the transaction is $250 million. The completion of the deal with the transfer of some employees to the American company Google is expected in the first quarter of 2025.
The deal aims to accelerate the development of the Android XR platform and strengthen the ecosystem for the production of headsets and glasses. HTC has transferred its intellectual property rights to Google as a non-exclusive license, which allows HTC to maintain the ability to use and grow its business without any restrictions.
The parties to the deal intend to consider the possibility of further cooperation. In 2017, both companies were already involved in a deal to acquire Google's stake in HTC's smartphone division for $1.1 billion.
