Gazprom Gas Distribution Far East has completed work on tapping and filling with natural gas the second stage of the inter-settlement high-pressure gas pipeline from the Yuzhnaya gas station to the Yuzhno-Sakhalinskaya CHP-1 (the section from the Botanical Garden gas reduction point to the Yuzhnaya gas station). Thus, one of the largest gas supply facilities in the Sakhalin Region, the so—called "Eastern Gas Pipeline", has been fully put into operation. This was announced by Gazprom.

The 27 km long gas pipeline was built as part of the Sakhalin Oblast gas supply and gasification development program. The capacity of the facility takes into account the need for natural gas for residents of the Gorny Vozdukh TOR (the Gorny Vozdukh sports and tourism complex, the GBU Olympic Reserve Sports School for Skiing and Snowboarding, the bath and hotel complex), CHP-1, industrial consumers, as well as the private sector of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

The launch of the second stage will make it possible to remove the current restriction on connecting consumers to gas in the southern and eastern parts of the regional capital. The first objects connected to the new section of the gas pipeline will be the boiler rooms of two apartment complexes in the city.

The first stage of the gas pipeline, commissioned in 2020, made it possible to provide gas to the microdistricts "Uyunovka", "Santa" and "Botanical Garden".
