The Italian chemical company Versalis, controlled by Eni S. p.A., held a meeting with partners and customers to discuss the restructuring of the chemical segment called "Versalis: from polymers to sales markets." This is reported in a press release from Eni.
The event participants were given the opportunity to review supply chain issues and opportunities related to the Versalis restructuring plan. The company is implementing a large-scale program that focuses on portfolio specialization, versatility, biochemistry, and innovation.
The strategic restructuring program, published in October 2024 and funded in the amount of 2 billion euros, provides for the expansion of new platforms in Puglia and Sicily based on the use of renewable energy sources.
Along with constantly evolving traditional products, Versalis introduced solutions for the transition to clean energy, including circular recycling technologies (including for the plastic packaging market); compostable products made from renewable raw materials by Novamont and branded Finproject products designed for the fashion and design segment, requiring special technical and operational properties.
The event also became a platform for discussions with representatives of academia, associations, and businesses on key topics such as the regulatory framework as a driving force for industrial transformation, advanced waste recycling, bioeconomics, and collaboration with startups and universities to develop innovative technologies.
In addition, a summit of 14 consumer associations belonging to the CNCU (National Council of Consumers and Users) was held, at which the "Bio&Circular Plastics Pact" was developed and signed. The document, which is the result of joint efforts by consumer associations, strengthens the principles and commitments for a more transparent, responsible and environmentally friendly use of plastic packaging.
