The number of DDoS attacks on Russian companies increased 2.5 times in three quarters

The number of DDoS attacks on Russian companies in the three quarters of 2021 increased 2.5 times compared to the same period of the previous year. The main targets of the attackers were financial organizations, the public sector, as well as the sphere of online commerce. This was announced by Rostelecom.

At the same time, the number of DDoS attacks on data centers and gaming, which were the focus of hackers' attention a year ago, has decreased.

The largest number of attacks falls on organizations located in Moscow. During the reporting period, their share amounted to 60% of the total number of incidents. The shares of other regions do not exceed 7%. Also, the capital is the leader in the average power of DDoS attacks, which leaves more than 70 Gbit/s.

The number of DDoS attacks on banks (including those from the TOP 20) increased 3.5 times, but almost 90% of them occurred in September. The number of DDoS attacks in online commerce has increased by 20%. The number of DDoS attacks in the public sector increased by 2 times in August and September compared to the same period of the previous year. It is possible that attacks on state resources during this period could be related to preparations for the elections to the State Duma, the report says.

The main shareholder of Rostelecom is the state. Rostelecom's net profit under IFRS in the first quarter increased by 58% to RUB 11.8 billion. Revenue increased by 9% to 132 billion rubles, OIBDA increased by 18% to 55.4 billion rubles.

Rostelecom's net profit under IFRS for the first half of 2021 increased by 52% to RUB 23 billion. compared to a year earlier. Revenue increased by 9% to RUB 270.5 billion, OIBDA increased by 16% to RUB 111.4 billion.
